The Idea

The Idea

The idea behind this poster was to bring Broadway and Austin together —the grunge and funkiness of Austin with the beauty and style of Broadway.

The Show

The Show

This good-natured comedy from Richard Harris chronicled several months in the life of a beginning tap class in Austin, TX. Each of the eight students, who came from a variety of backgrounds, had his or her own reason for joining. Whatever the cause, they made a point of coming every week to chat, relax and, if they can manage to, learn a couple of steps. But the steps and routines were just the background for the real focus of the play — the relationships and interactions of these very different people. By their final performance, not only had the class members developed some degree of skill, but they had also overcome the inhibitions, awkwardness and personality conflicts that had kept them out of sync.

The Photography

The Photography

Part of the exercise of showcasing different personalities on the poster was doing a photo shoot with the cast, who had the creative freedom to pick and choose the outfits and poses they thought best fit each of their characters.

The Event

The Event

A Facebook event and cover photo allowed the cast and crew to spread the word about the show and to update their personal cover images as well.

The Idea

This design was based on different typographic styles found on vintage broadway posters as well as on the famous broadway marquees. The classic feel of the poster reflects the simplicity of the show while the gold and the shapes in the background imply the warmth of the spotlight.
